“Quetzalcoatl” video by artist Oana Stanciu:
Quetzalcoatl (pron. Ket-zal-ko-at-al) was written by guitarist Frazer Knox and came out of a Tinderbox workshop series called ‘Creative Sessions’ that brought together composers and bands from all manner of backgrounds for one-off orchestral collaborations. The track has since become a staple of our live shows and the process of writing and developing it has been a significant experience for Frazer as an emerging young composer:
“Hearing it in real life in front of me through an orchestra was an overwhelming moment of pride, where I suddenly felt like I could call myself a composer, because it’s real music, and it sounds like real music.”

Coming up June 2017!
Over the past 2 years we have been working on our debut album. We have brought together over 150 musicians of all ages from the Tinderbox Orchestra and beyond to create a record that is an eclectic, high-energy orchestral fusion of styles, ages, voices and influences.
The album, entitled ‘Tinderbox’ is now fully recorded and will be released on 4th June 2017. It will be available via mp3 downloads and CD, and will be accompanied with educational resources for schools and young musicians as well. It’s been a fascinating journey so far and we’re excited to see where it goes next.

Album Launch and Youth Orchestra Course
We will be launching the album with a huge, celebratory concert on 4th June 2017 at Hidden Door Festival, and will be running a Tinderbox Orchestra course in the build up, for young musicians aged 11-25. It will run from March – June, and with courses catering to young people of all levels of experience. Click here for more info.
We are hoping to tour the album once it has been released, linking up with local bands, artists, schools and youth groups around the country as we go. We have pencilled in some Scottish dates for this summer and are looking to flesh out the tour and take the music as far as possible. We’ll keep you posted!
