TINDERBOX ORCHESTRA
Where soaring strings, heavy brass, and delicate woodwind of the orchestra meet rappers, singers and a thundering back-line; the Tinderbox Orchestra presents a mesmerising and unforgettable live show.
Fiercely innovative, independent, and led by some of Scotland’s most talented young musicians from across genres, the band has produced a variety of award-winning, often experimental productions, gathering an international cast of professional collaborators, all whilst transforming preconceptions of what a modern orchestra can be.
Their debut album, ‘Tinderbox’ (2017), was received well by critics across the board, with lead singles played on BBC Radio 6 Music (Tom Robinson), in addition to plays on both Vic Galloway and Janis Forsyth’s BBC Radio Scotland shows. Accompanying the album’s release, the Tinderbox Orchestra brought their live show to the festival circuit, headlining the BBC Introducing stage at Latitude and the closing night of the Hidden Door festival. The band has since performed at a number of major cultural venues including Edinburgh’s Usher Hall, Queens Hall and Leith Theatre.
Following a sell-out run of shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2019 and the release of their collaborative single “Talking About Birds” with award-winning Chinese artist Song Yuzhe (German Record Critics Award), the band returned to live performances in the summer of 2021. Picking up right where they left off, the Tinderbox Orchestra performed again as part of the Hidden Door festival line-up, on the main stage for the Fringe By The Sea event, as well as producing further sold-out events of their own.
The band is set to release their collaborative EP, ‘The Blood, The Weight, The Weary’, with SAY award-winner Kathryn Joseph in January 2022, comprised of new orchestral versions of tracks from both of Joseph’s albums. This will be accompanied by a launch show at Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall as part of the Celtic Connections festival.
