Everyone is welcome to get involved, and no game making experience is necessary.

You can join us whether you are brand new to gaming or if you play & make your own games already.

Everybody has a useful skill they can bring to the team!

Do you like video games? Board games? Card games? Or do you like just to be creative?

At the Games Club we play and make games as a collaborative group, which includes making all the artwork, sound, music & code needed for them, just like a games studio.

If you like any of these things or would like to learn about them, then come join us at the Games Club:

  • drawing, painting or using clay to make artwork
  • using technology to make digital art
  • using technology or instruments to make digital music and sound effects, or voice recording
  • writing stories and creating characters
  • using games design tools like Construct 3Bitsy, and Twine to combine everything into a game
  • using electronics and other technology like Makey Makeys and Micro:bits to create custom controllers for our games
  • making real-world set pieces and decorations to showcase the games we make
  • playing games together – both digital and real-world!

Games Club is:

  • Cooperative – we work together to reach a common goal, with an emphasis on teamwork and respect for each other’s ideas.
  • Collaborative – we operate a bit like a games studio, where everyone works towards and focuses on making one game together as a group, and everyone can contribute their ideas & creativity.
  • Creative – we like to explore how games can be different, and use a mix of different activities & materials to create them, including making artwork, recording sound, and experiment with games theory to come up with new ideas. We use digital tools (like laptops and other equipment) & softwares (like music-making programmes), as well as hands-on arts & crafts (like making real card games or physical game controllers) to bring our games to life!
  • Changeable/Responsive – the nature of games design means that ideas spawn more ideas, and often what we expected the game to be at the start of the process may change! We try to stay flexible to the creative direction our game may go in, which means that we sometimes do different activities week to week. Another part of games design involves fixing ‘bugs’ (when something is broken/not working properly in a game), so the games we make may not work perfectly at first, and each week we try to improve the game and fix what may not be working yet.
