Tinderbox returns to Hidden Door festival with a week-long programme of installation, live music and performance.

Tinderbox Collective return to Hidden Door Festival from 3-7 June with an ambitious programme centred on Room to Play – an immersive installation and performance space that places audiences inside a dystopian vision of contemporary tech culture. Co-directed with immersive studio Ray Interactive, and bringing together artists, performers and young creatives from across Tinderbox’s programmes, Room to Play runs throughout the festival as both a daytime exhibition and night-time live venue. Tinderbox Orchestra will also be bounding onto the Hidden Door Main Stage on Sun 7th June at 20:30 for a high energy set with special guest Kate Young.
Room to Play Exhibition: Dividual 3rd -7th June
Room to Play is a creative technology course and exhibition for emerging artists, who have designed a new immersive installation called “Dividual”.
Dividual is a mysterious tech empire – a rapidly growing multinational moving to a new area and setting up a showroom to engage with local inhabitants for brand awareness and recruitment.
The work shines a light on surveillance capitalism and digital marketing – poking fun at the narratives that define and uphold big tech empires, and exposing their profiteering and psychological manipulation as they seek to rule our lives.
Co-directed by Tinderbox Collective and Ray Interactive.

FABRICATION 007: Boardgame + Special Guests Thu 4th June l 7-10pm
Improvised electronica with modular synth duo Boardgame. Featuring special guests Aurora Engine, Masala 3 and Ingen.
Boardgame – Edinburgh-based improvised electronica duo who combine modular synthesis and custom audiovisual software.
Aurora Engine – composer, harpist and pianist, fusing real instruments, voice and progressive electronica.
Masala 3 – experimental audio-visuals with beatboxer Siddharth Biswas and friends.
Ingen – Minimal modular techno.
Workshop: Curly Sounds with Keith Duncan Sound Fri 5th June l 2-5pm
Come and use your voice, fingertips and imagination to play with synths & microphones to make ambient, experimental sound – no experience necessary, all ages welcome!
Keith Duncan is an Edinburgh-based musician, vocalist, sound engineer and sound designer. His work has screened at events and platforms across the world as diverse as the Scottish Parliament, New Chitose Airport Animation Festival and Sundance. More info here

Deep Sea Creature is the Scottish alternative rock (somewhat dirtydarkindiefolkjazzpop) project of Singer/Songwriter, Liam Dempsey. DIY fragmented loops, fragile words & the droning ambience. They will be playing a solo set from 6-7pm.
NxNW Young Bands Showcase Sat 6th June | 1.30 - 5.30pm
Tinderbox Collective, Granton Youth, and the Scottish Youth Music Exchange present a day of live music from some of Scotland’s most exciting young performers – taking place in our ‘Room to Play’ Stage and the adjacent Club Space from 1.30pm – 5.30pm.
The programme spotlights up‑and‑coming Scottish acts, including The Citrines (Edinburgh), Fergus and The Floorboards (Dundee), All the Wrong People (Edinburgh), Gemini Riot (Edinburgh), with more acts to be announced.
Samata Session: International Hybrid Performances Sunday 7th June | 1.15-2.15pm
Join us in person or online for a hybrid showcase of international performances, collaborations and new works in progress from Samata Collective.
Samata Arts Collective is an international gathering of arts and community groups – featuring Scotland’s Tinderbox Orchestra in Edinburgh, dancers from Project Elimu from Nairobi, Poet Roseline Orwa from Rona Foundation in Siaya county, drummers and musicians from Jagriti in Kathputli Colony Delhi, and women’s collective Chitrakoot Collective from Utter Pradesh in India.
