SYME Exchanges & Bursary Application (2025-26)

Summary

The Scottish Youth Music Exchange received some funding from YMI Strengthening Youth Music towards 10 exchanges for youth music organisations or practitioners this year.

We have reformatted these exchanges, after feedback from last time. This time, the exchanges will be for practitioners from two (or more) different organisations to visit each other – with at least one visit each way. There is a total bursary of £750 per exchange, to be shared between the groups or people involved.  There are 10 exchanges & bursaries available as part of this opportunity, and the deadline for applications is 1st Dec 2025.

The idea is for youth music groups and practitioners in Scotland to increase their networks and explore future collaborations or partnerships.  These visits and exchanges are a chance for people to get a better feel for each other’s work and the young people they are working with, with the hope that it might lead to new ideas and practical collaborations in the future.

The visits could involve, for example, shadowing and watching a youth music session or activity delivered by the other organisation, an in-person meeting or planning session for an idea or project, a practical workshop that one artist or group delivers for the other, or any other idea or activity that would make it a useful visit and exchange for you.

Requirements for the proposal are:

  • Two (or more) participating groups plan the proposal together before submitting it.
  • The exchange should involve a visit both ways – with someone from each group visiting each other.
  • The proposals should be focused around at least one of the following outcomes:
    • Networking & meeting new people/organisations
    • Exploring future partnerships or collaborations
    • Professional development for practitioners
  • The activities and reason for the exchange should be explained in the proposal. As mentioned above, activities could be in-person meetings, shadowing projects, delivering workshops, networking events, or any other idea that would be useful for you.
  • The exchange and visits need take place by March 31st 2026.
  • The proposal should be signed by someone from each participating group or organisation.
  • If successful you would need to complete a short evaluation & feedback form about the exchange.
